The Mill Pool Barn is a fully renovated, traditional Lake District bank barn with a Visit England – Five Star Gold Award rating. We were delighted that it was selected as a finalist in the Cumbria Tourism Awards 2023 for self-catering accommodation of the year.
The barn is part of Torver Mill which lies about 1/2 a mile south of Torver village in the south west Lake District National Park. The barn consists of a double height lounge area and adjacent kitchen and dining space. There is a king-sized double bed on the raised ‘hay-loft’, with a modern shower room and toilet below. The property has been finished to a very high standard with under-floor heating, a fully equipped kitchen with induction hob, built-in microwave, dishwasher, washing machine/dryer etc. The lounge area has all you need to relax after a day on the fells, a smart TV with Netflix and a Bluetooth sound bar .
Torver Beck runs past Mill Pool Barn where you will usually see our resident dippers and many more species of bird and animal life which live in and around the mill pool. The property is situated on a bridleway which joins Torver Low Common only 100m to the south, making it ideal for walking and mountain biking right from the door.
An unusual and special feature of the Mill Pool Barn is that it derives its power for heating and lighting from the Torver Mill hydro-electricity system (built in 2015), making your stay in the Lake District completely carbon neutral! An electric vehicle charging facility powered by the flowing Torver Beck (Type 2 connector) is available for visitors to use free of charge.
